As a tango guitarist, German Martínez was a member of Julián Plaza’s, Osvaldo Berlingieri’s, Pascual “Cholo” Marmone’s, José Colángelo’s, and Emilio Balcarce’s orchestras, and accompanied singers Raúl Lavié, Virginia Luque, José Ángel Trelles, and Amelita Baltar, among others.
He recorded an album as part of the Presencia Tanguera Quartet, with Antonio Agri as guest violinist. With the Pablo Mainetti Quintet, he recorded two albums that he promoted in tours around France, Italy, and the United States. He has been a member of the Astor Piazzolla Quintet since 2001, and has performed with it in the Americas and Europe.
Between 2001 and 2007, Martínez played a pivotal role in the Octango ensemble, directed by Julián Vat. With them, he accompanied the dance show “Boccatango,” featuring famous dancer Julio Bocca, and traveled to Europe, the United States, and Latin America.
Currently, Martínez coordinates and leads the show “Improvisación Tango,” reformulating this genre with musicians like José Pepe Motta, Pablo Motta, Edgardo Acuña, and Marcelo Baldonedo. They have played at Buenos Aires venues like Virasoro Bar and Che Flores! Resto Bar, where he also presented the show “Jam porteña” with guitar player Raúl Luzzi and singer Rodrigo Flores.
