Quinteto Astor Piazzolla

The official quintet of the Astor Piazzolla Foundation, directed by the maestro’s wife, Laura Escalada Piazzolla. The mission is to continue and promote the musical legacy of the great composer who revolutionized tango.

The first quintet ensemble was formed by Astor Piazzolla during the 60s, causing a sensation among the young public with its provocative and melodic sound. Piazzolla’s music had an elaborate and intellectual style that at the time broke boundaries and challenged norms.

After the composer’s death, the Astor Piazzolla Foundation was formed and Laura Escalada Piazzolla created a new ensemble with five virtuoso soloists capable of interpreting the vast body of work left by the maestro.

The quintet has toured the world for more than 20 years, acclaimed by the international press as the only musical ensemble with the ability to truly represent the unique and inimitable style of the great Astor Piazzolla.

2019 Tour stops include: Montevideo, Lima, Guayaquil, Quito, Bogota, Medellin, Panama, Mexico City, Seoul, Hong Kong, Singapore, Spain, Italy, France, Luxembourg, Netherlands, UK, among others.
